President’s Brief

A June Message on Leadership, Alignment and Making the Second Half of the Year Count, from AHSG & Commercial USA President Brian Preuss

Before anything else, I want to take a moment to thank Tony.

He took a strong foundation and made it sharper — elevating our communication, raising the bar on programming, and bringing a level of polish that this organization will carry forward. We are fortunate that we are not losing him entirely. Tony will be transitioning to Atlanta Flooring Design Centers, one of our member companies, and I look forward to working alongside him in that capacity. Thank you, Tony — for everything you brought to this role.

I also want to express my sincere gratitude for this opportunity. Joining AHSG and Commercial USA is not a transition I take lightly. After 18 years at Uzin Utz, I developed a deep respect for this industry, for the independent dealers who drive it, and for the supplier partnerships that make it work. Stepping into this role feels like a natural continuation of that work — and I could not be more excited about what we are going to build together.

Now — June is the midpoint. Half the year is behind us. The question worth asking is simple: Are you where you expected to be?

The businesses that are performing well right now are not doing anything complicated. They are staying aligned, protecting margin, and leaning into the programs and partnerships that create real leverage. If you are not getting everything out of your AHSG and Commercial USA membership, the second half of the year is your opportunity to change that.

On that note — the September Member Summit is full, and the agenda is set.

I am especially looking forward to this one. There is no substitute for what happens in those rooms — peer to peer, face to face. The conversations, the shared insight, the supplier alignment — that is where real opportunities are created. If you have your spot, come prepared to engage. The value you take home will reflect the effort you bring.

I am honored to be part of this organization and grateful for the warm welcome I have already received. I look forward to getting to know each of you and to working alongside you as we finish 2026 strong.

Stay focused. Stay aligned. Let's make the second half count.

Welcome to the New AHSG Member Savings Program (MSP)

Powered by The Network Network, LLC

American Home Surfaces Group (AHSG) has always been focused on helping its members succeed. Beyond industry education, networking opportunities, and professional development, AHSG continually seeks innovative ways to help members strengthen their businesses, improve profitability, and gain a competitive advantage. That commitment has led to an exciting partnership with The Network Network, LLC (TNN) and the launch of the AHSG Member Savings Program (MSP)

The Network Network, LLC is a strategic business development, sales, and marketing partnership organization founded by experienced executives with decades of success in national account management, corporate sales, marketing, association partnerships, and business growth. TNN specializes in connecting leading manufacturers, suppliers, brands, and service providers directly with association members through customized savings programs that create value for everyone involved.

The AHSG Member Savings Program is designed to provide members with exclusive discounts, preferred pricing, rebates, special promotions, and value-added services on products and services they already purchase and use every day. Through TNN's extensive network of national Vendor Partners, AHSG members will gain access to carefully selected companies offering solutions across a wide range of business categories, including safety products, tools and equipment, construction materials, fleet services, automotive products and services, technology solutions, payroll services, financial products, business services, and much more.

Most importantly, the MSP is not simply a discount program—it is a strategic member benefit designed to improve the bottom line of every participating AHSG member company. Every dollar saved through the program helps members reduce operating expenses, improve efficiency, and reinvest in growing their businesses.

As the program continues to expand, AHSG and The Network Network will regularly introduce new Vendor Partners that have been carefully vetted for quality, value, and relevance to AHSG members. These partnerships will provide members with an ever-growing portfolio of products and services designed specifically to support the flooring industry. Members can expect to see new vendor announcements, special offers, discount opportunities, and program updates featured regularly in The Weekly Edge, AHSG's official weekly member communication. We encourage members to watch for these announcements and take advantage of the exclusive opportunities being made available through the MSP.

Participating in the Member Savings Program is simple. When a new Vendor Partner is introduced, members will be provided with easy enrollment instructions and access to dedicated registration links, discount codes, purchasing portals, or AHSG-specific account representatives. This process ensures that members receive their exclusive pricing while allowing AHSG and participating vendors to properly track program participation and member savings. Whether purchasing online, through a local branch, directly from a manufacturer, or through a designated sales representative, AHSG members will have a straightforward path to accessing MSP benefits.

The partnership between AHSG and The Network Network represents a significant investment in member value and long-term industry growth. By combining AHSG's strong member community with TNN's expertise in developing strategic vendor relationships, the Member Savings Program creates a powerful platform that benefits members, strengthens vendor partnerships, and helps AHSG continue delivering meaningful value to its membership.

We invite every AHSG member to participate, explore the savings opportunities available, and watch for future vendor announcements in next week's Edge. Together, AHSG and The Network Network, LLC are creating a smarter, stronger, and more profitable future for the hard surfaces industry, one member, one partnership, and one savings opportunity at a time.

Quality Floors | Phoenix, AZ

Commercial USA

Quality Floors AZ has built its reputation on something simple but powerful: doing the job right, standing behind the work, and earning long-term trust project by project.

Led by Dean Carter, Quality Floors AZ is a Phoenix-based commercial flooring dealer serving the state of Arizona.

Founded more than 35 years ago, Quality Floors AZ has grown into a full-service commercial flooring dealership with more than 100 years of combined industry experience across its team. The company’s story is rooted in hands-on flooring experience, with its founder beginning as an installer before helping build the thriving commercial flooring business Quality Floors AZ is today.

That field-first foundation still shows in the way the company operates. Quality Floors AZ offers full-service support from estimating and project management to demolition, floor prep, concrete polishing, epoxy, carpet, LVT, ceramic tile, sports courts, and more. Their team also provides in-house labor, field supervision, and pre-installation site evaluations to help ensure projects are completed with accuracy and care.

Serving sectors such as education, healthcare, hospitality, multifamily, religious centers, industrial, and tenant improvements, Quality Floors AZ has positioned itself as a trusted commercial flooring partner across Arizona. Their standing in the market is also reflected in their long operating history, with public business profiles showing the company has been serving the Phoenix area since 1989.

Dean’s leadership has helped carry that legacy forward. As president of Quality Floors AZ, he represents the kind of independent business leader Commercial USA was built to support: experienced, relationship-driven, and committed to delivering value for customers while continuing to grow within a competitive market.

For AHSG and Commercial USA, Dean Carter and Quality Floors AZ are a strong example of what long-term membership can look like when paired with strong leadership, consistent execution, and a clear commitment to the customer.

Congratulations to Dean Carter and the entire Quality Floors AZ team on more than seven years of membership and continued success in the Arizona commercial flooring market.

Market Watch

Market movement, construction trends, and key indicators worth watching.

April brought a stronger-than-expected read on construction activity, with broad gains across several major categories.

Total construction starts rose 9% for the month, supported by continued strength in large data centers, energy generation, infrastructure, and commercial building activity. While a few categories softened, most sectors moved in a positive direction, signaling that demand remains active despite ongoing economic uncertainty.

Nonresidential building starts saw one of the strongest gains, increasing 18.6% in April. Commercial and industrial starts both improved, with office and data center projects helping lead the way. This is especially important for AHSG and Commercial USA members, as movement in these categories can point to future flooring opportunities across commercial, institutional, and mixed-use work.

Nonbuilding starts also improved, rising 7%, with highways, bridges, environmental projects, and miscellaneous nonbuilding activity all posting notable gains. Residential starts were slightly softer, dipping 0.7% overall as multifamily activity declined, even as single-family starts improved.

The takeaway: April showed unexpected strength in the construction pipeline, particularly on the nonresidential side. For flooring dealers and commercial contractors, this is a signal to keep a close eye on project planning, bid activity, and commercial demand in the months ahead.

Shifting Consumer Mindset Creates New Opportunity for Protection Plans in Flooring

Consumers continue to spend on home upgrades, while growing economic caution is driving demand for protection against unexpected damage.

Homeowners are continuing to invest in their living spaces at near-record levels, but a more cautious, value-driven mindset is reshaping how those investments are made and protected. According to recent industry forecasts, home improvement spending remains resilient despite broader economic uncertainty, with homeowners prioritizing maintenance, upgrades, and long-term value.

For the flooring category, this shift is creating a new imperative: protecting the investment.

“Consumers haven’t stopped spending, but they’ve become far more intentional,” said Ryan Alexander, President of Centricity. “Today’s homeowner isn’t just asking ‘What flooring should I choose?’ they’re asking, ‘How do I protect that investment over time?’ That’s an important opportunity for our industry.”

A ‘Protect What You Buy’ Economy Emerges

In the current economy, home buying has slowed down and become uneven while spending on home maintenance, repair, and targeted upgrades remains strong. With elevated interest rates limiting home sales, some homeowners are choosing to stay put, investing in their current homes rather than moving.

That dynamic is especially relevant for flooring, one of the most visible and high-cost interior upgrades.

“At a time when consumers are watching every dollar, the idea of facing an unexpected repair or full replacement due to accidental damage is simply unacceptable,” Alexander added. “Protection is no longer a luxury add-on; it’s part of the value equation.”

Why Flooring Is Especially Vulnerable

Despite its durability, flooring remains highly susceptible to everyday accidents, from damage by dropped objects and furniture movement to spills and pet accidents. These often result in costly repairs that are not covered under standard warranties.

Centricity’s Alexander brings more than 20 years of experience developing consumer protection programs across multiple product categories, notes that flooring represents a unique gap in consumer awareness.

“Most homeowners assume their investment is covered, but standard warranties rarely address real-life accidents,” said Alexander. “In flooring, a single incident, a deep scratch, spills or stains can lead to significant out-of-pocket costs. Protection plans close that gap and give consumers predictability.”

Opportunity for Retailers and Manufacturers

As consumer expectations evolve, protection plans are also becoming a strategic tool for flooring retailers to differentiate in a competitive market.
